When you begin your badge application, you’ll be asked whether you have any aliases. An alias is any other name you have been legally known by, or any variation of your name that appears on the identity documents you’re submitting.
List an alias if it is a:
- Former name, maiden name, or birth name
- Name changed for legal or cultural reasons
- Spelling variation that appears on any of your identity documents
Do not list nicknames or shortened names unless they were at one time your legal name.
Check your documents before you answer
Compare the identity documents you’re submitting with your application. If your name appears differently on any of them, list that spelling as an alias. Unlisted variations are a common cause of application delays.
